Preschool to third grade educators are empowered to incorporate science into their curriculum programs with these highly interactive teacher or train-the-trainer sessions. This basic Zula workshop provides:
- Key background information about science inquiry
- Explores connections between science and other core learning areas, such as math and language arts
- Models how to implement activities and lessons using the 5E science inquiry approach combined with media literacy underpinnings and 21st century skills.
Topic-specific workshops build upon the foundations established in basic Zula sessions. It is recommended that these workshops be presented at a point when new Zula's Exploration Mission Modules topics and concepts are being introduced, to provide ongoing science and math in-service for educators on specific science themes such as simple machines, weather, matter, life cycles, plants, animals, etc.
All workshop facilitators are trained in early science and math education, media literacy, and 21st century teaching and learning.
Evaluations are administered to assess participant learning and outcomes.
In these multi-group workshops, children, their parents, and early educators explore the science inquiry process. This is a particularly powerful combination that allows children to engage in different science activities while interacting with the key adults in their lives.
Strong connections are made between classroom science experiences and experiments and home science missions that extend the learning process into the home and community.
All workshop facilitators are trained in early science and math education, media literacy, and 21st century teaching and learning.
Evaluations are administered to assess participant learning and outcomes.
Parents are encouraged to help guide their young children along a path of lifelong exploration and discovery in these high-energy, interactive, hands-on sessions. Two- to three-hour workshops show how science and math activities can easily be incorporated into typical household routines - and into environment, neighborhood, and community-based experiences. The workshops model an approach that incorporates media literacy and 21st century thinking skills as parents guide children toward making connections between The Zula Patrol® videos, related books and stories, and simple, home-based science activities.
